Treated wood is a natural product that will age naturally over time which will include the possibility of the post developing splits and cracks. That is just the nature of wooden mailbox posts.
The post arm is a simple 3.5″ wide flat surface. Some mailboxes may require a mounting board (not included) in order to be attached to this mailbox post.
